    Hi, I rotated the engine to check timing with the sump and rocker off. I noticed the oil pp sprocket bolt loosened itself. Is this because I rotated clockwise 3/4 times on the flywheel face and instead should have rotated anticlockwise?

      I doubt it - that bolt should be tight enough for that not to happen

    Hello, thank you for this video, it is very interesting... and in reference to this type of problem I have a Mini Cooper 2008 (R56) BASE. A couple of days ago I went to start the car, put the key, all the lights appeared on the dashboard but it didn't turn on. I tried 3 times to do so and it wouldn't start. The next day I put the key back in and the lights did NOT appear on the dashboard and I thought it was a battery problem. The next day I put the key back in, the dashboard had the lights on and the car started. I'm a little confused with this situation, could you help me figure out what you think the problem could be? I also get a check engine but I already know the problem, I have to change the oxygen sensor. I would greatly appreciate if you could guide me.

      You usually see a leak and possibly a coloured residue which is the dye from the coolant

      No - they are very different. There are 2 diesel engines in the second gen BMW Mini. The pre facelift was a PSA engine which is very reliable. The post facelift is the BMW N47 which is prone to camchain failure. See my N47 camchain videos for details.

    Lots of grease and put the subframe upside down and use your bodyweight to push it down while twisting it clockwise. I've done it in 20 min for both. For pulling them use a heat gun and then a crow bar. No problem.

    What time chain kit would you recommend? I hear the Ultra ones are meant to be genuine parts for the PSA engines?

      For N12, N16 and N18 engines I use VGA TC1030FK and for the N14 I use VGA TC1025FK the FK means there are more seals etc in the kit.

    Currently doing this job. My crank locking pin only goes in with the cams 180 degrees out(writing facing down, round bit facing up). If i lock them like this, everything should be fine? Or should i lock the crank, remove the chain, and then rotate the cams to the correct position?

    Would you replace crank bearings while the sump is off as a matter of course or are they likely good for many more miles - I am at about 90k and maybe rings whilst engine apart ?

      The crank bearings (main bearings) can only be charged by removing the crank which means removing the engine - so in a word - no.

    Granulate the inletvalves, ore better with rim cleaner and 10 bar 😂,,,dont Forget to close the valve you are working on😅

    Me done 800 times by Citroën thp this chain Problem, you do Every Thing good, but you Forget the starting from this problem why the chain is getting longer,,,,because it is a direct injection and with all the restrictions you get carbon (koolstof)oxide,,hope i spell it right 😅, on the inlet valves, when this Comes lose it is between youre inlet valves en you get engine misfires,,and eventualy scratches and oil consumpion

    They have the same design on a lot of VWs. When i have seen it done on RUclips, its a proper faf. The tooling you need to do the job is nuts.

    Hey first of all thanks for such an in-depth tutorial i wondering if i could ask a question ? I have all my locking tools in place and ive replaced the chain and torque spec the crankshaft bolt but when i try to do the additional 90 degrees i got maybe 50 on and the chain kind of clunked round i checked all the locking tools the pin in the crank and and checked the writing was still up and everything was fine just cant understand why its done that i cant get it any tighter without the chain trying to move I've left it till tomorrow now but thought id see if i could get some advice. Thanks again 🙏🏾

      Never had that problem. The pin should hold. Maybe replace the pin holding the crank?

      @@TheMiniSpecialist thank you for the reply i do have an upgraded race clutch but it all held when taking apart I think I'll be okay I have seen some discrepancy with 180 degree and 100 people saying if it's a new bolt do it to 180 if not 100 but I think Im somewhat over the 100 but not quite the 180 i generally cant get the bolt any tighter so im thinking its gunna have to be okay lol I hope all will be okay i turn the engine over when im done just to make sure the timing is okay

    Car engineers suck 😂they hate mechanics. Mini specials could you do a subscriber a solid? Could you see if it is possible to fit the mini charger on to a Suzuki swift K12b motor. Please like in your spear time or when your having shower thoughts?

    So when the first timing plate is located with 6mm bolt and the pump is in the correct place it locks up but when the pin is located into the flywheel the crank has moved to tdc,so wont the fuel pump now be out if timing?
